DeMuth is a Master of Fresh Writing. Her stories are so vivid you can taste the air and dirt of Defiance, Texas (the pure poetry of her writing is almost overwhelming the first several chapters, but like a hot bath after easing into it, it's delightful).

Daisy Chain is a compelling novel more than worthy of a Hallmark movie. The changes in time can be a little confusing, but soon get sorted out within a paragraph or two. The book is written in the third person, but she easily places us inside Jed's skin, the main character. It almost feels as if it's written in the first. I have also spoken nationally and internationally at many retreats and seminars and enjoy running into many readers and former students. I have written frequently for both Christian Standard and Lookout, periodicals of Standard Publishing. Years ago I wrote two non-fiction books, published by College Press, but currently out of print. These days, I’m exploring fiction. My first novel, Tender Grace, will be released by Bethany House January 30, 2009, and a second, Things Worth Remembering, will be released in October, 2009. I’m working on new projects, including a third novel, as time permits. Whether speaking or writing, I love the opportunity to tell about Him whom Jesus called “Holy Father” and “the only true God.”

She lives in Joplin, Missouri with her husband, and she spends most of her free time doing is reading and writing. This book is worth reading for the first paragraph alone. Even if you have never lived in Texas, you will feel right at home with this book and its entertaining insight into culture there.

Lisa writes a great book (it made me laugh, cry, hold my breath and sigh) that will leave you delighted whether you consider this your genre of choice or not! It was also refreshing for the heroine's love interest to not be the "cutest" guy in the story.

Back Cover Reviews: Never Say Diet by Chantel Hobbs - One Month Update

I lost five pounds in the first month! I averaged an hour of exercise 5-6 days a week. I haven't taken my measurements yet which is unfortunate because I think I've lost and inch or two in my waist and my husband said that my legs look thin! :) My goal is to develop healthy lifestyle habits (exercise and eating) more than to burn calories (but I really could lose twenty pounds to be healthy again).

This is my third day of no junk food for a month (or as I'd like to call it practice-for-getting-rid-of-junk-in-the-trunk, LOL). So far, I've given up a chocolate cupcake, Sunday morning coffee (with lots of creamer), two after dinner mints and my mother-in-law's special Peanut Butter & Jelly Cookies (I probably would have eaten 2-3 yesterday and another one already today) - just think of all of those calories that in the past I wouldn't have had the will-power to resist consuming! Oh yeah, and I went to bed hungry last night (don't worry, I consumed enough calories yesterday) - something new for me. And, guess what, it is a really good feeling to have some victory and self-control in this area!

Yes, I've had some bad days where I didn't resist the food temptation...and ate too many calories (like the last night of January), but hey, this is not a diet...it's practice for permanent change in my life! Thank you Chantlel!

Gretchen's Scribbles: I fixed a hole

I fixed a "hole" in my manuscript. It was a problem that had bothered me for a long time. In the last week, I've written 5,154 words (gotta love "word count," YES!) correcting that issue. After so much time editing (since August), it refreshed me to write again - that is what I truly love!

My self-imposed deadline to send out my manuscript to ten readers was the end of January. I know that I've crept into February, but I'm very close...hopefully by the end of next week I'll have copies printed and ready to hand out or send. One unsolvable riddle that I have is, how do you find five people that you don't know (and who will be ruthless) to read it? I have one person who doesn't know me too well and another who hasn't seen me in thirteen years and we've only recently talked a little...hopefully they'll feel free to say what they think (although this part both exhilarates and scares me), but I do need the honesty...
